Using Video Effectively In Your COVID-19 Video Marketing Strategy

Posted July 24, 2020 No Comments

Making headway on your digital marketing strategy should be a priority for businesses right now. Studies show over 80% of consumers have consumed more video content since the coronavirus outbreak than at any time over the past 2 years. This proves video is what is needed! It’s estimated that by 2022, 82% of all content creation online will be video. So why don’t we all take the time to get a head start on our video marketing strategies? Our video production company can help if you want to jump straight in!

Over lockdown we attended a multitude of online events and those who effectively used video and video marketing techniques immediately stood out. A couple of great examples were Microsoft’s Biz Apps Summit and IBM’s Think 2020. These events used a lot, and we mean a lot of video, both approached it a little bit differently, the incorporation of an engaging video strategy made hours of content consumption more consumable. Customers are hungry for content, they have time to digest it, and they’re in a safe space like their homes and they are free to consume at will.

Many companies are focusing on digital as a substitute for the traditional face-to-face event, there’s an opportunity here to turn towards video as a means to better customer engagement, communication and retention during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have given you a few ways to incorporate video into your marketing strategy during this time of lockdown. We are finding ways to thrive!

Make Your Goals Clear

Just because we see video as being hugely popular, that doesn’t mean it will always be a successful tool. A study revealed that 45% of marketing teams have paused or stopped a video campaign midway in 2020. Crazy! This is probably because they hadn’t established a clear goal for their business. To make sure your video achieves the results you wish for, take time before you create video content to determine what your aims truly are. Do you just want engagement with your video? Do you want to retain or inform current customers? Do you want to share some information about what your business is doing? We have some great video for business examples! Make your goals translate into video before you even launch your video marketing campaign out of the door! Oh and be realistic. Consumer demand is currently at an all-time low. Change your expectations about what the consumer wants and what they are able to give your business during this time.

Make Video Marketing Content that’s useful.

Consumers are being inundated with video content right now. Everyone seems to want to tell their customers what they’re up to during the COVID-19 crisis. Which is a good strategy. However, research shows that 43% of consumers now think the COVID-19 messaging they are receiving on their newsfeeds and inbox is way too similar. Businesses appear to be copying and pasting the “we’re doing everything we can” and “we will be back to normal” messages. Even our video production company has produced this similar content! https://modusfilm.com/blog/thetimewestoppedcoronavirus/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQSRvYk2C0Q

If we are to be serious though, speaking from the heart and differentiating ourselves amidst the traffic would seem like the ideal second option. A post on Facebook came up the other day that said “Advertising before Coronavirus: Look at all these features”.  It then listed: buy a <insert product name here>. A similar add said “Advertising during Coronavirus: We care about you now look at all these features”: why not buy a <insert same brand/product here>.

The question to ask is how can you change that advert? Make sure there is true purpose in your communication. Beyond having a business goal, your video or videos need to be giving something back to the customer. Digital is about the customer experience and your video marketing strategy needs to be pumped full. If the content is serving you alone and your video for business is just that, rather than the customer, you are going to be frustrating people to no end. Make the way to engage, uplifting, and supportive, or don’t send it, simple as that.

Authenticity

Video is the most likely medium to go viral and the only way to create that type of content is to be authentic. What is your brand or business personality? Oreo’s Stay Home, Stay Playful ad (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcFSiBJ-bdA) is so genuine it’s heartwarming.  Plus it made us fancy a pack the same goes for Facebooks own ad campaign which again tugs at the heartstrings. Now, these reactions weren’t a big surprise which came from these two big brands. These videos were made without directly calling out their products and took minimum budget.

These companies have huge pockets and probably big advertising teams, the lesson to take away is how they used their message. How can a business use video marketing and authentic voice to create videos consumers don’t just watch, but purposely search for and share?

Video marketing on a budget

So you are not Budweiser or Oreo, if you are then please do bring us into the fold? www.modusfilm.com. If like many people, you are facing budget restraints or maybe you had to follow Google’s lead and cut your marketing spend for the rest of the year. As a business or brand, you need to realise: the marketing investments you make right now may not pay off in terms of sales. Hard truth so keep your budget in mind. Don’t hire actors or extras, use real people who are at your disposal. Grab some Insta-stories. Film on your phone and use software like iMovie to edit. Better still hire our services. Point being: even though they are effective videos, they may not bring the sales you want. So, invest in a video strategy smartly. Our top tip is to keep your marketing alive and stay in the customers mind as much as possible!

Mobile is King!

During the stay at home period, some 55% of people are getting their news using their mobile phones. This figure does not include the many millions of people scrolling through their newsfeeds on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and even TikTok. Make sure your video content is mobile friendly as much as possible. Consider the platform you will upload it too. For instance, YouTube does have some benefits. Its search is integrated across both Google and itself. You get double the search power for the content you upload in this way. Details like this make a huge impact when you are trying to make the most of your tight budget.

The Last and probably important thing to take note of is the world around you. The videos going viral during this time are the ones that bring people hope, information, and joy. Theses are videos of doctors calming people, people singing from balconies. Even demonstrations of children teaching us how to wear gloves properly. People want information and support. If your company’s marketing videos and video marketing strategy can provide that in an authentic way. Well you’ll be on to a winner.

Video Marketing Campaign for DFDS

Posted July 9, 2020 No Comments

We’ve been working with DFDS UK to make video marketing content for their Rediscover Freedom campaign. In July they started to welcome passengers back on their ferries as the borders have now been eased post the coronavirus lockdown. How to keep video marketing during COVID-19 lockdown?

Whilst remaining PPE compliant our video production team set sail from Dover to Dunkirk to film their new on board safety measures. We used our Canon camera on our DJI Ronin gimbal to get ultra smooth shots which was much needed on a rocky ship!

We edited the content with a tight turnaround ready for the videos to hit their social media channels. The campaign was designed to spread the word on safer travel so their passengers can feel at ease onboard. DFDS provided us with instructional captions which communicated their post COVID-19 offering and new operations. These highlighted a complimentary meal voucher for every passenger, enhanced cleaning, fully PPE compliant crew members and their luxurious Premium lounges to relax and unwind.

As a video production company this can be a little difficult as our products force us to get up close and personal with the subject matter. Typical for social media video marketing, but regardless of this situation, we are enforcing the following practices:

1. Wear face masks at all times unless given permission by the client to remove them.

2. Maintain social distancing and try to use zoom lenses whenever possible.

3.Sanitise all our equipment, especially microphones which come into contact with individuals.

4.Sanitise hands regularly and try with all your will not to touch your face.

Drone filming at Luton Airport in Covid-19 Lockdown

Posted May 14, 2020 No Comments

With the reduced number of aircraft landing and taking off due to COVID-19 we had a rare opportunity to fly our drone with our PfCO (Permission for Commercial Operations) and do some filming in between aircraft movements around the stands and the runway.

We’ve filmed at Luton Airport a few times over the past 3 years and it was very eerie to see all the aircraft grounded. You can almost hear a pin drop.

A big thank you to AIRDAT and Luton Airport’s air traffic control and airside operations for making this possible! We made another video about the recent national lockdown.

The Time We Stopped | Positivity within the Coronavirus

Posted May 1, 2020 No Comments

The current coronavirus lockdown situation can seem a bit scary – but it’s up to us to make the most of it and take as much positivity from it that we can. We even managed to visit an empty Luton airport!

Over the past few weeks, we have seen communities come together whilst individuals have kept their distance. We are all in this together and together we will get through it. This short video showcases the effect Coronavirus is having on the day to day lives of individuals and families living through the COVID-19 lockdown in England. In this video we see NHS workers, homeowners, children and key workers helping to keep our economy going.

We produced this with a fast turnaround of one week so we could post it on our social media whilst it was still current. It’s been well received on facebook with 4 thousand people reached. This is like what we achieved for DFDS!

Check out what you should be doing to maximise your video marketing efforts during lockdown.

DFDS Flashmob

Posted April 8, 2020 No Comments

DFDS Seaways asked us to hop aboard and film a choir that was scheduled to do some shows over in Berlin, and would be performing a flash mob for the onboard guests.

Once on board, we made our way to the lounge to set up the cameras. Making use of both our extreme zoom lens, and Ronin gimbal steadicam, as well as two GoPro’s to ensure maximum coverage of the lounge for when the performance began, to ensure we captured the guests’ surprise when the choir started singing.

However, this was a rough day weather wise. The ship was already rocking when we were docked in Dover, so filming with a precision zoom lens was going to be difficult. Thankfully we had our gimbal to balance out any rocking motion, and the choir did a spectacular job regardless of the motion. After a few falls we were back on track and the choir performed a variety of pop songs, and some well known Christmas classics, everyone on board seemed to have a great time, and it allowed everyone to forget about the rocky crossing.

Being event videographers we captured this event exceptionally well. If you want your event filmed get in touch with us on our contact page where we will be happy to answer any questions. This was great for social live streaming!

Social Media Video Live Stream Tests

Posted April 3, 2020 No Comments

At the minute we’re all in lockdown due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Because of this, all 3 of us are confined to home, so I decided to use this time to perfect our live streaming capabilities. Given I had the office to myself, I had plenty of room to set it all up. Using 2 of our cameras, our H6 Zoom, and a whole lot of wires, I managed to get a pretty decent stream lasting for four and a half hours. Pretty useful if Max or Mark wanted to check in to make sure I was actually working. Thankfully we invested in some camera batteries we could connect to a plug socket, so the need to keep swapping and charging batteries wasn’t an issue, and again, being the only one in the office, I had all the internet power for myself, so no dip in stream quality thankfully. The next step would be getting down to a more refined process, so we don’t need so many wires, but given this works fine, keep an eye out for Modus Live streams in the future!

Our Turner Prize Live Stream was a success!

Shepherd Neame launched Cask Club in March 2019 where they introduce a new cask ale each month in their pubs, celebrating modern styles and flavours, with exciting international collaborations and classic seasonal favourites.

Since April last year we’ve been filming taster sessions for each of the monthly drinks to go on the brewery’s social media. We take full use of our turntable and macro lenses to get some great shots of the ales.

Our video projects in 2019 Our best year so far…

Posted January 6, 2020 No Comments

Over the course of 2019, we were lucky enough to be involved in a variety of projects that took us all over. We started new relationships with new clients, and expanded our opportunities with those we had worked with for some time now.

We jetted off to Munich on behalf of Turner Contemporary, and trekked all the way to Newcastle to work with DFDS Seaways, and Manchester with Britain’s walking charity The Ramblers. 2019 saw a brilliant year for the art in Kent, between Ashford’s Create festival, to Tunbridge Well’s Puppetry Festival, to the Turner Prize being awarded in the Turner Contemporary, Modus has been at the heart of it all. From effigies created by award winning artist Oscar Murillo, to the talented LED Drummers performing at the McArthur Glen’s Designer Outlet, Ashford. 2019 has been a fantastic year of creativity for Modus and our partners, and we’re so excited to see where 2020 takes us.

We’ve had the chance to work on bigger, more exciting video projects, and really got stuck in with a load of Ashford based projects, which was great to be at the forefront to the big changes in our home town.

Let’s hope our video production company will do well for 2020! You can check out our wedding material here.

Modus Wedding Films 2019

Posted January 3, 2020 No Comments

Don’t just capture your day.
Capture your relationship.

We’ve been making wedding videos in Kent for over six years, and every time we love being able to help couples enjoy, and remember their special days. This year saw us travel all the way to the Lake District to celebrate with Lucy and Seb at the beautiful Blencowe Hall. We also ventured all over Kent to help a variety of couples including at Canterbury Cathedral, The Old Kent Barn, and even Camber Sands to enjoy Chris and Karina’s summertime wedding. What we love most about wedding films is the variety of locations and atmospheres. We’ve had weddings on the beach in the height of summer thanks to Holly and Will, and others hosted in beautiful castles, churches and cathedrals such as Jamie and Victoria. No two weddings we’ve filmed have ever been the same, and we can’t wait to see what exciting things happen at our 2020 weddings!

Check out what your wedding video could look like and view our portfolio! or if you want to know how well we did in 2019. Check this out!
