Visit Thanet (Thanet District Council) has an agenda to try and get more individuals living in London and the surrounding areas to take micro vacations in Thanet. With Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs all boasting a hive of new attractions, activities and the seaside setting the lure to increase tourism aligned perfectly with the Council’s re-development initiative. Our video marketing agency has helped really put the area on the map.

The Problem

The area of Thanet has been a place of mixed reviews over the years. Once a vibrant seaside resort and now a recovering, up and coming district, Thanet Council were keen to see if our video production company might be able to help them achieve their aim of increasing footfall to the area. One of the key incentives the Council wanted to present was how amazing the Isle of Thanet is, especially being a space full of fun with beautiful scenery. Video seemed like the best option to promote these ideals and Modus was asked how we might be able to deliver content as part of a highly effective video marketing campaign that was affordable and delivered ROI.

Following a collaborative team meeting with our specialist videographers and video marketers we categorised the area into four key promotional subjects. These included, Thanet Stories, Heritage and Architecture, Active Coast and Family Fun. These areas were identified to be of greater importance to the target market and we began scheduling and developing a video strategy that would engage, retain viewer metrics and be sustainable for many digital campaigns to come.

Achievements 

The video material we produced still remains a key staple in Thanet Councils digital marketing mix and is used year on year to promote the area. Our social media videos are regularly uploaded and attract amazing engagements within the first few minutes of upload. 

The final stats of the first video marketing campaign that ran across Facebook and Instagram achieved the following:

  • Total tourism footfall following launch of the campaign in 2018:
  • Over 1000% since 2017
  • Spending Income to Thanet Summer 2018 from London traffic increased to:

Revenue increased across all tourist attractions and the area had a huge footfall increase. Our videos received more engagement than any other video content made previously for the council and we are now their regular video production company. We continue to support the tourism team with their digital campaigns.
